What We Are…

Welcome What We Are…Friday, Halloween edition! Today marks MCG’s Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest! The competition has been fierce as our four carving teams closely guarded their designs and props. The smack-talk was flying across our back deck, but in the end, it was the team of Justin Smith, Liz Shawen, Jamey Ballo and Jim Hunt who took the prize and the coveted bragging rights.      Check out the creative costumes from some of our team members - Katie Spillman, Jamey Ballo, Shannon Colavecchio, Terrie Ard and Little Miss Terrie Ard. Tweeting from the Womb

Baby Maddox had a Twitter following, and even his own Twitter account, before he ever entered this world kicking and screaming. In the months that he was “In Utero,” his mom Rachel built up a community of friends and even sort-of-strangers who affectionately followed her pregnancy updates and offered advice on everything from creating a baby registry to buying maternity clothes and picking the right car seat. We knew when her hunger kicked in and had her eating lunch before 11 am. Monthly Twitter pics were beautiful updates of her growing belly. Before long, the hashtags were born: #babytalk, #maddox……

Discovering Hidden Talents

October is National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM)—the largest annual celebration for the arts and humanities in the nation. NAHM encourages people to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives. Recently, I was fortunate enough to meet with someone who epitomizes what NAHM is all about. Lynwood Tanner is the Service Operation Supervisor for Florida Public Utilities Company (FPU) in Marianna, FL. Tallahassee on the Move

I am encouraged by the economic growth I see in our region. Major companies are relocating to the Tallahassee area and key services like healthcare are expanding. In my first meeting as chair of the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, I was reminded of all of the reasons our area is undergoing such exciting growth – we have some of the best and brightest in our midst and we are committed to ensuring our community flourishes.
