The Makings of a Champion Business

When Olympics competition kicks off this week, two-time gold medalists and U.S. beach volleyball greats Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh will be chasing one of the most elusive achievements in all of sports – a three-peat. The Moore Communications Group team can relate, when it comes to being champions in the workplace. We’ve just been ranked by Florida Trend a “Best Place to Work” for the third year in a row. No lightning fast reflexes or fierce spikes here – just a great place to come to work each day. Our leadership team has created a culture of flexibility, appreciation……

The Power of the Ask

I love classical music, especially stringed instruments like the violin. So when a colleague shared an email about the ideal blend of marketing and sales, I admit it wasn’t the topic that caught my eye, but rather the case study. The Washington Post recruited internationally-acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell to play in the metro station at L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C. during morning rush hour to see how many people would stop to listen and how much money he would make from the incognito performance. The award-winning virtuoso, who commands ticket prices of $100 plus in sold-out concert halls, made a……

A Healthier Heart is Only a Dance Away

Walking an extra half hour each day. Swapping that late afternoon cookie for an apple. Doing crunches while watching TV instead of loafing on the couch. A healthy lifestyle isn’t as difficult as many people think. It’s the result of making a lot of little changes every day, as opposed to giant diet or exercise overhauls that are nearly impossible to maintain. It’s during this time of year when many people abandon their New Year’s resolutions and it’s typically because they set a goal that is too lofty or failed to break up one big goal into smaller, more manageable……

Everything I Need to Know About Public Speaking I Learned in High School

I just returned from a presentation to the Leon High School Science National Honor Society.  Staring out across the sea of faces, I saw two conflicting pictures – on one hand, these are intelligent, ambitious  students who will quite literally go on to change the world.  On the other, they’re no older than 18, and the topics I would discuss with a client (how to give a great media interview or how to best engage their employees), seemed terribly irrelevant.  They’re not likely to be giving interviews or supervising their own employees anytime soon.  So, I decided to get back……

Minimizing Holiday Stress the “7 Habits” Way

Have you ever noticed those people that seem to have it all together?  They accomplish everything on their to-do lists during normal working hours, always have time for their family and friends and appear to be masters at time management.  I strive daily to be one of these  people, but I always seem to fall short, based on my own, often skewed expectations.  I find that it’s during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, when work deadlines, family obligations and guilt from eating too many sugar cookies loom, that I’m the most envious of these people.    While reviewing……

Quality Healthcare for Gadsden County

As a Tallahassee resident for many years, I’ve seen it countless times – an ambulance from Gadsden County pulling off the highway at a Tallahassee exit, delivering a patient in need of immediate care to one of the hospitals in our town.  It always makes me nervous.  Tallahassee is at least a half hour drive from any point in Gadsden County, and in an emergency, time is precious and cannot be wasted. On Monday, June 14, Gadsden County will finally welcome a 24 hour emergency room.  I had the great pleasure yesterday to facilitate a press conference regarding the upcoming……

I Pledge Allegiance…

I’m an Air Force brat and darn proud of it.  Maybe your mom or dad was also in the armed forces.  Or maybe a sibling, child, or friend served.  But I’m willing to wage my hard-earned paycheck that your life has been touched by a veteran.  Moore Consulting Group and our 10 in 2010 partners, the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Tallahassee Democrat, were honored to host the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) as our May 10 in 2010 participant.  We offer 10 in 2010 as a pro bono outreach program to businesses, organizations and agencies in the……

Census Day

As a certified (and sometimes certifiable) multitasker, there’s a lot I can do in 10 minutes.  I can get enough groceries to last a week.  I can workout hard enough to hurt the next day.  I can brush my teeth, walk the dog and fix a healthy breakfast.  These are all things that keep my day running smoothly.  But this year, we all have the chance to devote 10 minutes to something that will impact our communities for the next decade – fill out our Census forms.  Today is Census Day, the day that the 2010 Census aims to count……

Technology, thy name is distraction

I recently read a Newsweek article that offered one of the most insightful points I’ve read, “If mental downtime becomes BlackBerry time, eurekas will be rarer.”  This made me think back to an experience at a previous organization, when I was having dinner with my coworkers.  We all lived in different cities and were in town for a two-day meeting.  Catching up with them was a luxury I didn’t take lightly, given that we saw each other no more than twice a year.  These meetings were often referred to as our “therapy,” as we typically worked in silos and appreciated……

Cooking up Success

I love to cook.  A hot, home-cooked meal bubbles on my stove nearly every night, as I feel great pride in concocting a dish that is healthy, delicious and takes little time to prepare.  While most of my favorite meals are from cookbooks, I find I follow very few to the letter.  In fact, I tend to believe that most recipes are better when adapted to one’s own taste.  However, cooking for a crowd requires a bit more consideration.  As I prepared Cincinnati Turkey Chili for dinner with my in-laws last week, I contemplated the amount of spices and vegetables……

Building a Winning Team

It’s World Series time and two teams are slugging it out to be called champions - the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.   My husband, a former baseball player himself, is unenthused about the match up.  “It’s like watching the All-Star game all over again,” he said.  “Where’s the rookie sensation, or the journeyman who’s never won a World Series, or the veteran who’s barely hanging on to his career?  That’s what makes an exciting World Series.” Interestingly, these two teams feature two of the highest-paid rosters in baseball.  The Yankees pay the most overall, with a payroll more than……
