A Powerful Message

We, at Moore Communications Group, are blessed to meet amazing people on our journeys. Some of them teach us new lessons, while others reinforce tenants we hold to be true. Soon, I will get to see an old friend, who I met through our work with the Florida Sheriffs Association. Renee Napier, who lost her daughter Meagan to a drunk driver in May of 2002, has been traveling the nation telling high school students about the dangers of driving under the influence. No doubt, due to her tragedy and loss, Renee has a powerful story. She reminds me of one……

One goal, four letters

I was so honored this month to join the ranks of powerhouse communicators and colleagues, Karen Moore and Terrie Ard, in achieving the highest accreditation in Florida for public relations practitioners. Earning my CPRC designation (Certified Public Relations Counselor) was one of those achievements that felt like earning a college diploma. Unlike the college experience, the CPRC is based solely on experience in the field. It was an affirmation that the strategy and recommendations I give as a practitioner are smart, strategic and senior-level. A few evenings of studying, when time is so precious, not to mention the five-hour exam……

Sincerity + Relevance = Brilliance

As various social media channels demand our attention during waking hours, the content that rises above the rest shares at least two characteristics: sincerity and relevance. The content is delivered by a sincere voice who has passion for the topic, which makes the content relevant to those who are interested. If the content is also relevant to the reader, the line between them is drawn and they share a connection. The content has, in that moment, made an impact and rises above the rest. The heart of what we do, and who we are, is that about which we are……

The Explorer Reveal

The all new 2011 Ford Explorer was launched in less than a dozen cities across the U.S. in conjunction with Ford’s Facebook page¾and Florida was one of the lucky states to be the first to greet the sleek, much-anticipated superstar. Trust me…I don’t use the term “superstar”  lightly. The Explorer was trucked secretly inside a non-descript trailer along America’s  highway from Michigan to Miami. Non-descript is the last thing the Explorer would be called. It was cloaked in secrecy among palm trees at the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach while hotel staff guarded the shrouded Explorer as if it contained……

Sterling Performance

When the Governor and Florida Sterling Council last week announced the 2010 Governor’s Sterling Award recipients, the healthcare industry was excited to learn they had swept the awards. Never before have all recipients of this coveted    recognition hailed from one industry. While America has been transfixed with the health reform battle, several Florida hospitals were focused on their own challenge in a battle for the highest honor a Florida organization can receive. Florida Hospital (Orlando), James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Clinics (Tampa) and South Miami Hospital all engaged in a significant effort to do it better. And these……

Sterling Conference Offers Business Insight

Last week offered many learning experiences, which is no different than previous weeks. Except I was in Mickey’s backyard. That would be in Orlando, Florida at the well-appointed JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes for the 2009 Florida Sterling Conference. It is amazing how much learning and insight that small Sterling staff can pack into three days! It was rejuvenating to hear from so many role model organizations. Their stories inspired, resonated and rejuvenated the 500 or so participants who migrated to the conference in search of these cherished tools and techniques to improve their organizations.   Phrases like “quality improvement”……

Watch for those Opportunities to Grow

Several of my colleagues and I sat down to strategize the next several seminars in the professional development series we provide to our Moore Consulting Group team. As we analyzed where many of us had an interest to learn more, or where we don’t get the opportunity as often to grow, each of us realized how pivotal continued growth is. Really, in such a busy and constantly changing world, professional development is as important now as it’s ever been. Deciding what professional development opportunities there are was an interesting, and challenging process. It required us to think not to terms……

The Heart of Florida's Economy

In today’s challenging economic climate, our state leaders and key organizations, including the Florida Sterling Council, are fighting for small businesses with the understanding that small businesses are the heart of Florida’s economy. In Florida, there are nearly 1.5 million firms considered non-employer firms (the one-man shops that have no paid employees). There are another half of a million companies with 1-99 employees. Small businesses create most of the nation’s new net jobs, and they bring exceptional ideas, innovative products, and that undeniable “failure is not an option” mentality, or mantra for some. Our future lies with those brave souls.……

Slamming the Spammers

Spam is something we have to deal with, but I (like millions of others out there) are thrilled with the Facebook verdict. Facebook won $873 million in damages from a spammer, the largest award to date under the Can-Spam Act. Rock on! Surely they will not collect most of it. But talk about a deterrent. Social media sites provide an entirely new platform for spammers (and other unethical companies). Content on social media sites continues to climb, and spammers are inventing new ways to get around the spam filters. Their latest strategy is to leave unique comments that make them seem……

Innovation: Above and Below the Surface

It is fascinating to me when a person or company fulfills their destiny and makes great things happen. Or when a person or company comes up with creative solutions to make us more productive. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about American ingenuity. An invention from a creative gentleman that oozes just that ingenuity, with a touch of destiny thrown in for good measure. That would be Reynolds Marion and his most-cool Marion Hyper Sub. Its tagline isn’t “Something Else. Entirely.” for no reason. Check it out at www.hyper-sub.com. It is part James Bond, part Jules Verne. It……

The Shrinking Press Corp

As Outlook downloads another 67 emails, the “names of the fallen” subject line catches my attention. Then I see the words “Miami Herald” and know that my friend has sent me a list of reporters, photographers and other good souls who have taken the buyouts that were announced a few weeks ago. Sad news for this PR professional who knows this is just the beginning. How do you sum up the talents, the funny moments, the many lifesaving and life-changing moments, and all the heart each of them poured into bringing us all those stories for all those years? A……
