Rethinking Media Measurement
by Susannah Wesley on August 10, 2008I think we’re measuring our work the wrong way. Especially in the public relations world, I often see measurement based on media hits or calculated impressions…which mean little in tangible results for any client. When I media train clients in preparation for interviews, I always tell them to speak in visual terms for their audience. Rather than saying “100,000 square feet,” I encourage them to say “Bigger than the Super Wal-Mart”. But are we speaking in visual terms when explaining the results we work so hard for? As a PR professional, impressions mean very little to even me. Yes, I……

The lyrics may be truer than ever when you think about mixing new and traditional media; this thought struck me right in the eye last week while I was standing in line at a local Starbucks in Tallahassee.……
Delivering Value Increases ROI
by Terrie Ard on May 29, 2009All month I had been looking forward to hosting Deirdre Breckenridge, president of PFS Marketwyse and author, as our speaker at the membership meeting of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Capital Chapter, where I serve as president of the board. I knew that Deirdre would deliver a great message to our members about social media and the impact it can have to change a brand perception, secure new clients and even increase the bottom line for a company. As I welcomed Deirdre to the meeting and introduced her to a packed room at the University Center Club, it became……
A Lesson in PR at 2,000 Feet
by Fernando Senra on September 30, 2009I recently was on vacation in New Mexico and Colorado. I had never been to that part of the country, and the fact that some friends recently moved to that area was a big draw. The morning after arriving in Albuquerque, I was off to one of my biggest adventures to date…hot air ballooning. After spending close to one hour helping the pilot and crew prepare the balloon, it was time to take off! Up we went so gently and quietly (with the exception of the occasional loud bursts from the VERY intense burner… seriously, I’d have been scared to……
PR - The Tools of the Trade
by Fernando Senra on October 28, 2009I have been doing several projects around my home over the past several months. Well, actually, for the past few years. The truth is that I’m a little addicted to home renovation projects. A new light fixture here, an updated sink there. It’s my house and I love to work on it. There are, however, some projects too large or potentially too hazardous that I will bring in a professional to handle. Every renovation expert says that homeowners can use this economic downturn in their favor to get services and products from a professional at a much lower cost. Maybe……
